Attractions
The Algarve.
Think of the Algarve and you think of sunshine breaks and relaxing
holidays. You imagine golden beaches on the coast of calm sea waters, sun-kissed
tourists relaxing and sampling the delights that this wonderful region of
Portugal has to offer. Everywhere you go, you are surrounded by bright
colours, from the golden sands, to the crystal clear waters, the clear blue
skies, the vivid green grass, and the white washed walls of the buildings in the
Algarve's old towns. There is no one best way to explore this region of
Portugal. The seemingly endless coastline includes some of the world's most
beautiful beaches, but by venturing just a few miles inland, you can lose
yourself in the heritage and history of the Algarve. Fancy a more
action-packed holiday? The Algarve caters for all holiday makers with every
water sport available for all tourists. The Algarve is also home to some of
the world's most famous golf courses, where players of all ability are welcome.
You can also try your hand at a nice relaxing game of bowling, or tennis, with
the Algarve's fantastic views and sights providing the perfect
backdrop.
Albufeira. The tourist capital of the Algarve. If you're
looking to make the most of your trip to the Algarve, then Albufeira has to be
visited. Albufeira boasts golden beaches, luxury holiday resorts, golf courses,
great restaurants and a lively nightlife. Albufeira is the town of the
Algarve.
Naturism Near the Algarves Western coast there are numerous "go as you please beaches"
where you can get an all-over tan. A particularly nice one is at Raposiera on
the N125, turn left at the traffic lights if you are heading West, and follow
signs for Praia Zavial. When you arrive at the beach walk to your left, by the
cliffs at the far end for an all-over tan. The beach is used by families couples etc
and also has a very good beach bar and restaurant. Bela Vista is Portugal's largest official nude beach, consisting of white sand
and dunes for about 3km. Many nudists head for the southern part of the beach
for extra peace and quiet.

Water Sports With the beautiful coastline and beaches that the Algarve has to offer
tourists it's no wonder that some of the most popular and enjoyable pursuits
are water sports.
If surfing or body-boarding is your thing, then a trip
to the beaches in Vila do Bispo and Lagos will provide you with all the
equipment you need for a session on the waves.
Fancy trying your hand at
windsurfing? How about water-skiing and jet-skiing? The best beaches for
these are at Albufeira, Vilamoura and Quinta do Lago.
If sailing is more
your thing then the marinas in Lagos, Portimao, Vilamoura and Albufeira are the
places for you, and they have all been awarded the EU Blue Flag. If you
fancy a slightly tougher challenge, why not venture out a little further to the
high seas off the coast of Praia da Rocha, Lagos and Sagres.
The Coast
The Algarve coast line stretches about 100 miles from the western-most tip to
the Spanish border and as well as being most well known for its expansive and
extensive beaches of fine golden sands, you will also find some of the most
dramatic cliff faces and rock formations in the world.
The western end,
which juts out into the Atlantic is a rugged, undeveloped area, which has
retained its natural charm, and is extremely dramatic, with cliffs of black rock
from which Algarvian fishermen cling precariously hundreds of feet above the
sea for hours on end. Nothing appears to have changed over the
centuries, and the entire area is virtually untouched by tourism. The beaches
here vary from tiny intimate coves to long lengths of open soft sand, where the
Atlantic waves crash and retreat.
The highlight of visiting the western
coast is Cape St. Vincent - the most south-westerly point in Europe. Migrating
birds fly overhead, using Cape St. Vincent as a stop off point en route from
Northern Europe to Africa.
Visit these cliffs and you will see
spectacular views straight out across the Atlantic Ocean, with nothing but water
between you and America!
